Frequently Asked Questions

I’m a May 2010 graduate. What should I do first?
Make sure you file your application for graduation, preferrably no later than the end of the fall term.

When should I apply for graduation?
The deadline is January 1.  The sooner you apply, the sooner your record can be reviewed. It only takes a couple of minutes.

What happens after I apply for graduation?
Your application initiates a formal degree audit of courses and requirements by the graduation evaluator. Check your student email account. You will receive email notification regarding your graduation status.

As a graduating student, are there any important dates or deadlines I should keep in mind?
Yes, should you need to make changes to your final class schedule; the last day to add/drop classes for the spring semester is January 25. You should run your degree audit one last time to make certain that all of the little lines are filled in before this date.

When is graduation for May 2010?
May 2010 commencement is May 21. There are two ceremonies on commencement day; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. There is also a ceremony for the GPS students on Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Information regarding the schedule will be posted under the “Rehearsal and Commencement” page closer to the May ceremony. Students will also be notified in the daily reminder and will receive an email.

Can I walk across the stage at commencement if I have to take summer classes?
You certainly can. If you need to take summer classes to finish your degree, you can still participate in the May commencement ceremony. Your degree is awarded in August at the conclusion of the summer term. You must have no more than 6 credits to complete in the summer to be able to graduate.

Anything else I should know?
To be sure that you are on track to graduate, we stress the following:

  • If you haven’t filed an application for graduation, make sure that you do. If you have applied, no need to file multiple applications.
  • Check Degree Audit in WebXpress. Review what courses you still need and make sure that you register for these during registration. After your registration review your audit. You are looking for your degree “program status” to read “Pending: Anticipating Complete.” That means all needed courses are in place. “In Progress” status means you need to contact your advisor. Something is “not met.”
  • Make sure that you are not missing anything like transfer credits from courses completed at other colleges. AP, CLEP or departmental exam credits or course waivers/substitutions.
  • REMEMBER: You must meet all university and program requirements to earn your degree. Check the university catalog, see your academic advisor and use your Degree Audit.
